  • Martin Neale

    DIRECTOR SCIENCE

    Martin is an expert in the application of scientific information to the management of the natural environment. Martin's experience has given him a practical appreciation for how science can be applied in New Zealand environmental management to achieve positive outcomes.

    Martin is an active member of the international science community with 20+ years’ experience. He has led and coordinated a wide range of environmental research and monitoring projects in roles in government, research institutes and consultancy, including as: an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Biological Science University of Auckland, Lead Scientist with Puhoi Stour Limited, Senior Consultant with MartinJenkins Limited, Principal Freshwater Scientist with Golder Associates Limited, as the Manager of the Environmental Science and Research Unit (RIMU) with Auckland Council, and as a Freshwater Biologist with the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (U.K.).

    Martin has deliberately developed his science leadership and communication skills by attending dedicated science communication conferences in the USA and participating in an international science leadership programme provided by the Barefoot Thinking Company.

  • Andrew Schollum

    DIRECTOR POLICY

    Andrew is an expert in environmental policy analysis, policy implementation, facilitation, and applied decision-making at the interface between science and policy. Over 20 years of working in public and private sector organisations and NGOs has given Andrew a fully rounded perspective on Resource Management, firsthand experience of processes spanning from national policymaking to local consenting, and a practical understanding of what it takes to convert vision into action.

    Prior to taking up his current role as Head of Policy at Puhoi Stour, Andrew spent five years with Martin Jenkins and Assocaites during which time he founded and led the firm's Natural Resources service line. Andrew joined Martin Jenkins from the Ministry for the Environment where he spent five years working as a Senior Policy Analyst in resource management reform and energy and water policy. During his time with the Ministry, Andrew was seconded to the Ministry for Primary Industries to provide analysis and advice to the Minister of Agriculture on water-quality related matters, and to the Land and Water Forum where he provided policy advice to the Chair of the Forum and supported the Forum's work on 'governance' and 'iwi rights and interests'. Prior to joining the Ministry, Andrew managed a team at Mighty River Power responsible for acquiring resource consents, worked as a Policy Planner at Auckland Regional Council responsible for coordinating regional strategy with local plans, and worked as a Consultant with Mitchell Partnership where he conducted environmental impact assessments.

    Andrew is a member of the EIANZ and RMLA, a fellow of the NEXT Foundation, an Accredited RMA Hearings Commissioner, and an Honorary Lecturer at Auckland University where he co-teaches a block course in Environmental Impact Assessment and contributes as a guest lecturer to courses on environmental modelling. Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Psychology) from Auckland University, a Master of Environmental Studies with Distinction (with a thesis in Industrial Ecology) from Victoria University of Wellington, and has completed short courses in environmental economics (Government Economics Network), sustainability psychology (Auckland University), governance for NGOs, financial governance, and strategic governance (New Zealand Institute of Directors).
